Pastor’s page

Rev. Ron McCreary
Welcome to the our Web site and to my page. I’m Ron McCreary, pastor of Gray Memorial United Methodist Church.
I was born and grew up in and around Pittsburgh and am a leading-edge Baby Boomer. My family moved to Fort Lauderdale when I was 14 and in the ninth grade. I graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1964 and went off to Florida State University, where I graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Music Education.
In the early 1980s, working for the State of Florida Department of Education, I felt a call to the ordained ministry. I entered Candler School of Theology, Emory University in January of 1982 and graduated with my M.Div. in the summer of 1984.
As a member of the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church I’ve served congregations at
- Lee (Madison County) 1984 – 1987;
- Clermont (associate) 1987 – 1990;
- Fort McCoy / Pine (Marion County) 1990 – 1992;
- Mulberry 1992 – 1998;
- Bunnell 1998 – 2000;
- Garden City, Jacksonville 2000 – 2005;
- John Wesley, Tallahassee 2005 – 2009;
- and finally here at Gray Memorial in Tallahassee since July of 2009.
I write a weekly “Gray Monday” weblog (”blog”) about what I plan to preach about the following Sunday. Usually a new entry is available Monday before Sunday here.
I keep a second “Gray Matter” blog for occasional beyond-Sunday comments. It’s available here.
